My thoughts regarding the proposed HS2 railway infrastructure project which is designed to join up Britain. I wholeheartedly agree that a high speed rail network is of vital national interest for the economic growth and prosperity of Great Britain. If you would indulge me dear reader…
France have the TGV (Tres Grande Vitesse). Italy have the Pendolino. Bombardier has now been acquired by Alstom.
I have decided to play a game of fantasy football but with rail infrastructure projects instead ie cherry picking the best technologies available. My proposal is Maglev.
The cost/benefit of Maglev.
Costs:
Maglev systems have been much more expensive to construct than conventional train systems,
Benefits
Maglev trains can in some cases be quieter and smoother than conventional trains and have the potential for much higher speeds.
The simpler construction of maglev vehicles makes them cheaper to manufacture and maintain.
