Wooden Spoon Award 2023

Dear reader, after much deliberation, this year’s wooden spoon award (actually not after much deliberation actually, it was quite obvious whom the award should go to). It goes to Liz Truzz and Kwazi Kwarteng for their contribution to the economy. Or, to be more precise, for their contribution to the shrinking of the economy and making pension pots disappear in a puff of smoke.

Alas, dear reader, you can understand that it is a joint prize as there is only one wooden spoon available (due to the tight economic circumstances you understand). The prize is awarded antemortem (though many of you dear readers may collectively wish that the prize was awarded posthumously. We can only hope and pray for that eventuality). Unfortunately, due to the ongoing postal strikes, the prize is only available for collection (again due to to the tight economic circumstances).

As a personal favour, dear reader, if you are in a position to do so, please inform the awardees of their nominations and subsequent (er…) winning of said award. And that their prize will be available for delivery (if and when the postal service resumes) for a small surcharge to cover administrative fees.

Zanny Beddoes, if you should stumble upon this by accident, please would you consider the author (me) as an occasional contributor to your illustrious journal, 1843.
